A month of planning was involved before we could begin the move of the H-43 from The Pate Museum in Cresson, Texas to Goodfellow AFB, Texas 200 miles away. The first hurdle was how to transfer the main portion of the airframe. The 17th Transportation Squadron (17 Trans) at Goodfellow was able to borrow a “low-boy” trailer from Dyess AFB. A driver from the 17 Trans pre-positioned the trailer at The Pate Museum on the 13th of January. Unfortunately the caretakers of the museum would not allow the driver to leave the trailer next to the Huskie. He was forced to leave the trailer about 150 feet from the aircraft. Early on the morning of the 18th CMSgt Terry Ford, SMSgt Jeff Nabozny, MSgt David Toohey, and MSgt Tony Lohrman hit the road for Cresson to load the helicopter.
